IT’S A CHOICE OF WORDS
Andrea Pacini —
When I interviewed Amanda Baker, founder of 5 Stories, a method for telling stories that connect with people, one idea resonated with me: language creates reality.
She shared an example that resonated with me as a parent. After a tough day with your kids, instead of saying “It was a bad day,” try saying “It was a wobbly day.”
Feel the difference? One feels heavy. The other, lighter, softer. The words you use shape how you experience the moment.
It’s the same in business communication.
Say “cost”, and people think of loss. Say “investment”, and they think of future value.
Say “weakness”, and it stings. Say “area for development”, and it opens the door to growth.
Language is how we shape reality.
When you communicate, be intentional with your words. They can soften a blow or open up a new way of seeing a challenge.
