DO THE WORK BEFORE YOU TEACH THE WORK

Andrea Pacini —

In any field, if you haven’t done the work, don’t teach others how to do it.

I once met someone who started his own business. A few months in, he had no clients and was back job hunting. On his CV, he described himself as a business development consultant.

That raised a question: if you can help others grow their business, why couldn’t you grow yours?

I’ve seen it happen in many fields. People share advice on things they haven’t done themselves. Leadership coaches who’ve never led a team. Innovation experts who never build anything new. Presentation trainers who give boring talks. Time management coaches who are always late.

To be clear: we all start somewhere. I did too.

There’s nothing wrong with being early in your journey.

But there’s a line between learning and pretending.

Clients value integrity.
