YOU WILL DIE

Andrea Pacini —

I grew up Catholic, like many in Italy. But when I moved to London, I met people from all walks of life, each with different beliefs.

It made me wonder: “Am I really the only one who happened to be raised with the right beliefs?”

Over time, I drifted from religion and found myself drawn to science and the mysteries of the universe.

And when you start thinking about life’s big questions, you inevitably think about death too.

For me, accepting that I’m going to die has been liberating.

I love life. I want to make the most of it. But knowing my time is limited pushes me to focus on what matters. Embracing death has made me appreciate life even more.

Why share this in a book about communication?

Because the fear of public speaking can shrink when you hold it up against something as final as death.

Are you worried about your next presentation? In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter?

One day, we’ll all be gone. That’s a much bigger deal than anything you’ll ever say on stage.
