HELP THEM HELP YOU

Andrea Pacini —

Many speakers prepare an introduction for themselves.

Fewer think about what happens after they speak.

Author and advisor to speakers, Maria Franzoni once shared a simple tip: help the MC – the person introducing and closing your session – help you.

At conferences, the MC might be dealing with tech issues or backstage logistics while you’re presenting. Yet, many speakers expect them to close the session with a meaningful summary.

That’s a missed opportunity.

Before you go on stage, give the MC one line. One key idea you want your audience to take away.

The MC can then wrap up by saying, “Here’s what I took from that,” or “Here’s the message I’ll remember.” When someone else says it, it sticks more.

You’ve reinforced your message through another voice.

So next time you speak, think about how your talk will land after you leave the stage.

That final moment matters too.
